James Scott is currently in his 23rd season as Principal Trombonist of the Calgary Philharmonic and as Trombone Instructor at the University of Calgary. He holds Bachelor's and Masters' degrees from the Juilliard School, and has performed with the New York Philharmonic, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, the New Jersey Symphony, the Spoleto Festival and the National Orchestral Association. He is an active soloist and chamber musician as well, and also enjoys performing as a member of Calgary's "Prime Time Big Band."
Many readers will be familiar with the seminars that Joseph Alessi has held in Nyack, N.Y. for trombonists on two occasions, with a third to happen in August 2003. I had the opportunity to take part in a European version of the event last summer in Limone, Piemonte, Italy.
