I don't know if you have to put the commands in the subject line, or in the body, but one should work. Be sure to send it to listserv@po.missouri.edu, and not the address for posting to the list. -- Walter Barrett "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." Trombone-L With the new listserver software, there is an interesting new option - to have the name of the list attached to every subject line. For example, if this were to be enabled, the subject line of this message would read: [Trombone-L] Your Input is Needed re. Trombone-L Please share your thoughts with me by e-mail, rather than to the list. Thank you in advance for your input. I just found a website for Stonesfield Silver Band, about an hours drive from where I live. Their bass trombonist's name is Keith Marr. So all that stuff about parallel universes was true after all. Of all people, you'd think a trombone player would keep track of his gigs! :-) -Aaron _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 03:54:59 +0000 From: Jason Akai Subject: Slight loss of mental functions Hey gang Before I get into this, I have to set the table a bit. Although I started playing an instrument in 1984 (4th grade for me), and trombone in 1986, it wasn't until I got to Marian Catholic HS that I really learned what it meant to be a musician. In the week before we started band camp (I think it was late May or early June in 89), the director, Greg Bimm, sat all 200 of us in a band room built for a 60-70 piece band (we were quite close...). He wanted to play some stuff for us so we knew what he was looking to have us play this year. He played Barber's School for Scandal, some of Rutter's Gloria, and Pie Jesu. He also said the song he wanted to try was going to be tough for us. He said some of us might know it from Platoon. The song was Adagio for Strings, by Barber. It forever changed what I thought of when I thought of the beauty of music. So that leads us to this, and my slight loss of mental capacity. Since I couldn't find it anywhere else, I have arranged a 5 part Trombone (or 4 bones and a tuba) for this piece. Its more of an editing really because I wanted to stay true to the master work. Anyway, I wrote it using Mozart (which Im not terribly fond of, btw, but it's free). The 1st part flips from Bass to Treble clef and it's highest note is a Cb above the high Bb - and the guy who is going to play it will have no problems with it. He has insane amounts of range... So, what I'm wondering is 1) Anyone interested in taking a look at what I've done? Definitely open to comments... 2) I am not trying to publish this or anything, so I am not 100% sure if I need to care about copyright stuff - either for me or for Barber. I would love to know from some more wise people if there is something I need to worry about. We do have plans to play it @ the Orland Park Community Band (a free gig like Tom Gibson was talking about before...). But great sighs of woe, I've just been given one of those giant ergonomicalified boomerang shaped computer keyboards (you know, the kind that has the "y" of "qwerty" on a separate keypad 100 yards away from the left hand bit. How long does it take a 62 year old male 2-finger tapper to learn to touch-type? And what the heck are all those extra buttons for? Ah, one of them is labelled "Play/Pause". Must be something to do with trombone practice. A.
