DR. JOHN SEIDEL

1948-2016

SCROLL

WE REMEMBER

We are saddened to share the news that Dr. John Seidel, Professor of Trombone at Ball State University, died on Friday, June 10, 2016 after an extended illness. He passed with his wife Liz and his children at his side, listening to Mahler 1 and  Mahler 5.

John Seidel was a gregarious man with a laugh as big as his heart. He provided the wisdom, guidance and inspiration that lead to the formation of the Online Trombone Journal, it was born in his trombone studio at Ball State. His articles are some

of the best-written on the site, he was always happy to write, serve as a peer-reviewer and offer advice as needed, often over Guinness or one of his very tasty meals.

Lessons with John were sometimes a well-deserved butt-kicking, sometimes a needed inspirational word or example, and always musical. Trombone Ensemble rehearsals were always the musical highlight of the week, and sitting next to him in an orchestra made playing trombone the easiest and most natural thing in the world.

Thank you for everything, Doc.

Rest peacefully.
